Speckled Gray Bowl

A wood-fired stoneware bowl by Yoshio Kangawa, made in the anagama kiln he built himself in Hiroshima. Iron in the clay rises to the surface as dark specks, and the soft gray comes from the firing itself: clay, ash, and flame working together. No two are alike.

A rounded form on a small foot. Easy to use for rice, soup, noodles, or matcha. The gray lets the color of the food stand out.

With use, the clay absorbs oils and the surface deepens, so the bowl becomes more your own over time.
