Made in Tokoname, Aichi, a region with a tea-pot tradition spanning more than a thousand years, this unglazed shudei kyusu is crafted by a potter devoted exclusively to teapots. The artist selects and blends the clay, then ages it for more than three years before shaping it.
The porous, unglazed clay is valued for mellowing the flavor of tea over time. A rounded form and a hand-worked band of pattern give the teapot a quiet, distinctive character. A piece shaped by patience, from the preparation of the clay to the everyday ritual of tea.
