George Nakamura

George Nakamura
He is proposing creation that are suitable for spaces and modern lifestyle
He used to primarily create art pieces, but now he focuses on creating tableware.
You can use it as you like, but especially in this season,
I think it's good to put appetizers, fruits, and a little sweets such as carpaccio
They are easy-to-use dishes such as pasta and rice bowls.

「About craftsmanship」
He  started making pottery as a way to express myself and live my life. At the same time,He also create art pieces in a completely different style. He has taken an extreme approach to both types of creation, which has divided his artistic consciousness in two.
When it comes to making pottery, there is an element of it being used by others for some purpose, which is separate from the creator. So when he makes pottery,
He try to create it with the concept of bridging the gap between the user and myself as close as I can.He perceive this conscious act of bridging as 'craftsmanship'.
So, when he think about the breadth of this awareness,
He  consider works that are created without the conscious act of bridging, even if they have the shape of pottery, it is art rather than craftsmanship.
Craftsmanship is about 'awareness'. When this conscious act is actually manifested into a physical form, He believe that technical skills are also necessary for its realization.
Craftsmanship that cannot be manifested is an incomplete form of craftsmanship.
That's why he strive to improve myself every day.
He said that Moriyuki Hosokawa once said, 'work in the fields on sunny days and make pottery on rainy days.' I am still in the process of 'making pottery on rainy days and making pottery on sunny days'."
